At Mildmay Hospital, we are fortunate to work alongside incredible volunteers whose contributions make a real difference to our patients and services. Over the past four months, Vicky has been one such volunteer, dedicating her time and expertise to help digitise decades of medical records.
This work has been more than just administrative support. Mildmay still maintains decades of medical records in paper files, and Vicky has been helping with our long-term programme to bring these back on-site, digitise them, and integrate them into our clinical database. By making patient information more accessible, this project improves continuity of care, supports better clinical decision-making, and ensures that our staff have the insights they need to provide the highest standard of care.
Alongside volunteering, Vicky is completing a Master’s in Biomedical Research. Her thesis explores the impact of aid reductions for HIV in Malawi, reflecting her deep commitment to public health and global health equity.
“Learning about what it’s like to live with HIV has been invaluable and will help guide my future work in public health. I’m especially grateful to my manager, Shalma, and fellow volunteer Shane, who made the experience so enjoyable.” – Vicky
Vicky’s time with us demonstrates how volunteering can be mutually enriching. Her dedication, curiosity, and enthusiasm have not only supported our team and patients but also shaped her professional journey in public health research.
We are incredibly grateful to Vicky and all our volunteers, who bring their skills, energy, and compassion to Mildmay every day. It’s thanks to them that we can continue to deliver exceptional care and support to our patients, while nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
