Alongside the specialist care we provide here in east London, Mildmay's charitable work continues internationally, through our long-standing partnership with Mildmay Uganda Hospital. universal fund

Since 2002, Mildmay's Universal Fund has supported orphaned and vulnerable children and young people in Uganda who are already in Mildmay Uganda Hospital's care, helping them into education, vocational training, or apprenticeships, depending on what will make the greatest difference to their future.

After a two-year pause caused by funding pressures, the Fund restarted this spring, and around forty households have already re-entered the programme. Through our summer appeal, Mildmay is aiming to raise £60,000 to secure the Fund for the next three years and extend support to more young people.

Among those supported is Samira (above), from the Wakiso District of Kampala, who had to leave school to help support her family before facing an unplanned pregnancy during Uganda's COVID-19 lockdown. Mildmay Uganda Hospital supported her through her pregnancy, and the Universal Fund has since helped her return to education. She sits her final exams this November.
