Marion Kyobutungi (therapy assistant) and Kattya Mayre-Chilton (Specialist dietitian) proudly represented Mildmay at the Nutricia Annual Congress at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

This event, which took place on the 16th of October, was an ideal opportunity to increase their knowledge of plant-based oral nutritional supplements, feeds, and research. Topics in focus were cachexia, screening, muscle wasting, and implications on people with overweight/ obese BMIs; fundamentals of plant-based protein; strategies for supporting patients and medical nutrition research; and a multidisciplinary team approach for management of hepato-pancreatic-biliary conditions.

With the global focus on sustainability, we find patients can be vegetarian or vegan for many reasons, from preventing medical conditions such as cancer, obesity or diabetes, religious convictions, concerns about animal welfare, or wanting to avoid environmental waste and harm.

The NHS's commitment to becoming more sustainable has pushed research in the field of plant-based nutritional support. This allows us to offer more options for patients’ personal preferences while we support them in rehabilitation.

We sampled the Mocha and Mango passionfruit plant-based, vegan, ready-to-drink, oral nutritional supplement formulated for the nutritional needs of patients with disease-related malnutrition and those following a vegan diet. We also sampled the Hot tropical Ginger and Cool Red Fruits' compact protein sensory alterations for taste alteration range, which can help some of our patients prevent a decrease in caloric intake, risk of malnutrition, and overall quality of life. These oral nutritional supplements can improve overall energy and protein intake, body weight, muscle mass and quality of life.

Our team attendance at the Nutricia Annual Congress demonstrates Mildmay's commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients by respecting and supporting their personal choices while offering appropriate support.
