"A real family": Bishop Paul McAleenan visits Mildmay

On Wednesday 30 September, Mildmay was delighted to welcome the Right Reverend Paul McAleenan, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, to the hospital at the invitation of our chaplain, Sister Bernie.
Bishop Paul oversees hospital chaplaincy across the Diocese of Westminster, and he served as a hospital chaplain himself early in his ministry. He last visited Mildmay in 2017. A great deal has changed since then, as the hospital has opened new pathways of care for people with complex health needs.
Staff and patients gathered to welcome him over coffee, tea and croissants. Thanks to the fine weather, everyone was then able to spill out into the hospital garden, where we later had lunch together.
Reflecting on his visit, Bishop Paul said:
"Mildmay is a real family. Whether you are a patient, staff member or volunteer, you very quickly feel a part of it."
Sister Bernie said:
"Bishop Paul's visit made it a very special occasion for us. Mildmay has gone through many changes since his last visit, as we have opened our doors to new pathways in caring for others. Thank you, Bishop Paul, for your presence among us and for spreading the good news about Mildmay Hospital."
Mildmay was founded on Christian principles of love, compassion and service. Today our chaplaincy offers spiritual and pastoral support to patients of all faiths and none, and to the staff who care for them.
We are grateful to Bishop Paul for his time and his kind words.
