Good food, good care: planning our winter menu

At Mildmay, what goes on a patient’s plate is part of their care. menu
Every meal on our hospital menu is planned and overseen by our specialist dietitian, Kattya Mayre-Chilton, working alongside the wider clinical team.
Last week we welcomed Elisabeth Brown and Abo Dioum from Jude & Co Manufacturing Ltd (formerly Coco Labelle), who have supplied food to Mildmay for the past year, to start planning our winter menu.
It was also a valuable opportunity for Ji Hu and Joe Drasdale, final-year students from Health Sciences University who are completing their MSc Pre-registration Dietetics placement with us. They met our suppliers and talked through winter menu options for patients and staff, seeing first-hand how hospital catering is shaped around clinical need.
“Many of our patients arrive with very particular nutritional needs,” says Kattya. “Some are recovering from months of sleeping rough, some are managing the long-term effects of HIV treatment, and some are rebuilding their health after detox. A good winter menu has to meet all of those needs and still be food people look forward to eating. Working with suppliers who understand that makes a real difference.”
We’re grateful to Elisabeth and Abo for visiting, and to Ji and Joe for their contribution during their time at Mildmay. We wish them every success as they qualify.
