Clinical teams from Mildmay Hospital were pleased to contribute to the 6th Joint Conference of the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), held in Manchester this spring.
The hospital was strongly represented through presentations and research contributions from members of our multidisciplinary clinical team, reflecting Mildmay’s continuing role in specialist HIV care, rehabilitation, and innovation.
Dr Divyan Moodley presented research entitled “Evaluating commercial large language models in delivering HIV-related health education.” The study explored the potential role of artificial intelligence in improving access to reliable HIV information and support for the public and for people living with HIV.
The research was originally undertaken as part of Dr Moodley’s MSc dissertation. Building on this work, Dr Moodley is now developing MACH (Multilingual AI Chatbot delivering information on HIV), an AI-supported HIV education and signposting project designed to support access to trustworthy information and appropriate services. Development of MACH is supported through funding from Gilead Sciences Ltd.
Mildmay clinicians also contributed to a joint presentation examining the transition from acute hospital care into specialist HIV rehabilitation. The paper, presented by specialist dietitian Kattya Mayre-Chilton and Lead Physiotherapist Asterios Lotsios alongside colleagues from St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, explored the integrated care pathway and rehabilitation journey of a patient with advanced HIV and highly complex needs.
The presentation highlighted the importance of specialist multidisciplinary rehabilitation, continuity of care, and holistic long-term support in enabling recovery and restoring independence for people living with advanced HIV.
The case study demonstrated significant improvements in mobility, nutritional status, and functional independence following sustained specialist intervention across acute and rehabilitation settings.

Participation in BHIVA/BASHH 2026 reflects Mildmay Hospital’s continuing commitment to clinical excellence, research, innovation, and collaborative working across the HIV sector and underscores the efficacy of integrated care pathways in managing complex HIV cases and reducing the pressure on acute NHS beds.
We congratulate all colleagues involved in presenting and contributing to this important work.
