Every year on 12 May, Florence Nightingale's birthday, we pause to honour nurses everywhere.
At Mildmay, it's a moment to celebrate the people who make our work possible.
Today, our nursing team is hosting a bring-and-share lunch in the William Ward Day Room, open to staff, volunteers, patients, and visitors. It's a simple celebration that speaks to something essential about Mildmay: we are a community, and our nurses are at its heart.
Many of our patients live with complex health and social needs. Our nurses and healthcare support workers support them with skill, patience and a steady belief that everyone deserves dignity and a chance to recover, even when the work is demanding and emotionally tough.
Mildmay's nursing legacy stretches back 160 years. From the Deaconesses who staffed our first Medical Mission in Bethnal Green to the globally diverse team working here today, nurses have been the constant through every transformation this hospital has undergone.
So today, and every day, we say thank you. Happy International Nurses Day.
