Mildmay at the IDDSI Congress and Festival

Marion, Meshonett, Rhoda and Clive share a table at the IDDSI Congress in September 2023

We're proud that Marion Kyobutungi (therapy assistant), Meshonett Appleby (nutrition lead nurse), Rhoda Hassan and Clive Wright (ward hosts) represented Mildmay at the sold-out UK International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) Congress & Festival in Derby, UK, yesterday.

This event is an ideal opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills around IDDSI in Health and Social Care settings. It's giving them a better understanding of the IDDSI framework and network, including clinical professionals, dietitians, speech and language therapists, caterers, chefs, patient groups and suppliers involved in this field.

This will allow them to put theory into practice, which will support their IDDSI delivery when catering for patients with Dysphagia at Mildmay.

IDDSI is a global initiative that aims to standardise the way dysphagia diets are described and implemented to improve the lives of over 590 million people living with dysphagia. This is important because it helps to ensure that people with swallowing difficulties can receive safe and consistent nutrition wherever they are in the world.

Our team is representing Mildmay's commitment to providing the highest quality care to our patients with swallowing difficulties.

Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties. Some people with dysphagia have problems swallowing certain foods or liquids, while others can't swallow at all. Other signs of dysphagia include: coughing or choking when eating or drinking, bringing food back up, sometimes through the nose.
