A very large bouquet of yellow roses in the Mildmay Chapel
R.'s beautiful roses in the Mildmay chapel

Our Chaplain, Sister Bernie, recently attended the funeral of one of our former patients.

Sister Bernie shared this solemn reflection with us after attending the funeral - which took place on April 1st, 2025, which we wanted to pass on to our wider Mildmay family:

“R. is now at peace, thank God. It was a much larger funeral than we expected, including many of their family - as they were one of nine children. Their sister, Rev. Linda, took the service and one of their brothers gave the eulogy. It was such a joy to hear about their childhood and escapades, and their wonderful qualities as a beautiful human being - particularly how their kindness shone out throughout their life.”

Following the service, the family insisted that their flowers - a stunning bouquet of golden roses, their favourites - be brought back to Mildmay. These now sit in our chapel for a short time, offering a quiet moment of reflection for all who pass through. As Bernie wrote:

“Do take a moment to go to the chapel to contemplate their beauty, as they won’t last too long.”

The family spoke warmly of the care their loved one received during their time at Mildmay and have asked us to pass on their sincere thanks. They have also suggested that donations in their memory be made to Mildmay - a touching gesture that speaks volumes about the relationship formed here between staff, patients, and families.

We remember and hold R. and their family in our thoughts, and may these golden roses stand as a tribute to a life well-lived and well-loved.
